Final Presentation

Ambient Media Placement: Cafes and Restaurants.
Why: They can use it as a cup mat when customers make order for drinks and can let customers to play with when they needed some games to over boredom when they are waiting for their friends or hangouts with besties.

Final Progression

There's slightly different materials that I used in my prototype.
The previous prototype that I mentioned was card board,
But due to the gap thingy, I decided to go with mounting board. This idea comes in when I found 3 A3 size mounting board that I didn't use for my diploma.

Although it's thinner than cardboard but the quality is better, at least it didn't have gap for the sides.

 The picture above is my printed artwork, I cut them into 9 pieces which in size 9cm X 9cm.

 The mounting board's sides doesn't have a single gap, looking good. After I pasted my artwork at both sides of the pieces, I applied a thin layer of sealer paint to make it glossy and higher protection.

But the paint is quite sticky as I mentioned in my previous post, so I don't satisfied with the finishing, but the overall is okay, better than the gap thingy. And I found out that this puzzle can also used as cup mat, multipurpose huh!

Line Illustration

Since this project is about pushing my limit and step out of my comfort zone,
so I wanted to try on designing a style that I never think of trying before.
It's Line Illustration, I get the idea after came back from Art Expo Malaysia 2014.
But that time what I wanted is just a very rough idea,
I wanna design something that shows blood transaction, flow and the most important is Abstract! The first thing in my mind was using the blood that flows and create some silhouettes to shows how the blood could save people. But the result is just NORMAL, I wasn't satisfied what I designed. It doesn't really pushing my limit though, because it's just another USUAL illustration for me. It wasn't really a challenge at all, so I decided to change my design. So I do a lot of research from books and internet and finally came out a very good idea.

I found a book from my university, I looked at it for a second and the idea suddenly came out. Blood transaction doesn't really need to use blood to show the flow, it also can use LINE to replace it. After getting the idea, I started to surf the internet and look at most of the line illustration design, it was very inspiring.

The images above are the image that inspired me the most. After that I came out my own design and showed it to my friends and family. But I found out that most tenagers and adults can understand my concept and what I wanted to approach except for the elderly. I was kinda upset because I wanted to design something that everyone can understand, but it's kinda difficult for me by now. This is my first time of try this kind of style, so many parts I can't do something like those Line Artists, I'm still need to improve on my design. So I went to Ms Anis and asked for her comment, see what can I improve my artwork.

Ms Anis suggested that I need to specify some parts that allow people to recognized the people. The important part are the head, hands and legs. I was happy after she said it's a good try for me and the work looked nice. Make me feel like all my hardwork is worth and not just about marks or result etc, it's about satisfaction. So after the consultation, I did some changes on the artwork and went to LAP SOON to print out.

Gloss Gel Problem.... Which one and where to buy?

I had been searching everywhere for gloss gel that mentioned by Ms Anis earlier,

But there is just too much of gloss gel in the market and I'm not sure which one is it...

The picture above is the one that my friend found it for me, not sure it is the one or not,

So I didn't buy it..

Here goes another problem.... I found all these different gloss gel at craft heaven in Bandar Utama...

WHICH ONE IS IT???

Should I buy all of these to try one by one? Only when there is a sample for me... In my dream, there's not going to happen... It's too expensive for me to purchase all of these...

 Lastly, is this the one that can repair the cardboard gap? I'm not so sure either... Need to ask ms anis in the next consultation...

2nd Prototype

Here is my second prototype, as I said before, this time I'm using cork craft board to replace the cardboard. I did the same steps like before, I cut it into pieces, but the sides are difficult to cut off and the cork flakes are keep falling off... Not that good as I was expected.

After all the cutting work, I started to paint the sides to cover the ugly parts but the result is very bad. It is because the paint is hardly dry, even its dry, I still can feel the stickyness of the paint when I touched it. The paint is keeps fading off whenever I hold it, this is much worse than I tot...

Although the paint can cover the sides of the cork board, but there is another huge problem. The sides was very ugly, the rough surface make it looks the puzzle is in very poor quality and the part that I can't stand it was the cork flakes are keep falling off. 

The conclusion is cork craft board is not a good material for my project, so far cardboard is still the best.

Feedback #1st Tryout

After I've consultation with Ms Anis and told her what's the problems that I'm facing now,

she suggested that I can use glossy gel to replace the glossy spray and paint.

She said I can get it from Spotlight Ampang Point,

it's a place that sell lots of craft thingy.

I haven't figure it out how to go there yet,

it's very far distance from my place (batu caves).

I'm thinking of going some DIY shops that near my place first before I go Spotlight,

so I can save my time and petrol.... 

For now, I'm doing my 2nd prototype using cork craft board.

Although Ms Anis said the cardboard is just good enough,

but trying another material may find something better.

 

First Tryout

These are the materials that I prepared for my first prototype:

- Varnish spray

- Glossy paint ( transparent )

- Printed artwork ( mock up in A4 )

- Scissors

- Cutter Knife

- Poster Colours

- Craft Glue

- Brushes

- Pencil & Pen

- Ruler

- Newspaper

- Cardboard

I drew nine squares on both artwork and cardboard and cut it into pieces.

Then I glued the artwork and cardboard together.

 I painted the sides of the puzzle with white poster colour to cover up the ugliness of the cardboard and waited them to dry.

But after the paint dried out, the holes of the cardboard sides couldn't cover up well, so the result is kinda bad. 

In this part, I have tried two methods of vanishing and glossing for the puzzle.

One side use spray to do the work and another side use the vanish & glossy paint.

So this is my first tryout, here is the result.

RESULT:

1. Need to find a new kind of board to replace the cardboard due to the gap of the sides.

2. Glossy spray is not a good choice due to some stickiness after it's dries out.

3. Craft glue is better than paper glue due to its dry based, but it's not stick as it was aspected.
